Sugah and Spice, a Friday Night at the Red Cup

This poem was also written while listening to Jessica Tate and Eman Chalsitory (heaven help me on his last name) perform at the Red Cup in the fall of 2004. If you missed the tour, check it out in the previous entry here.

pumpkin spice walls
and pumpkin spice soup
cinnamon clove borders
and smooth blues liquor
poured on thick with a cello bow

chili pepper mugs
and chili pepper curtains
petite-four furniture
and diminished fifth drunkenness
stirred–not shaken–with a callused finger

black licorice harpist
in black licorice heels
a marzipan audience
on the rocks of aeolian reality
ecstasy-iced inebriation

with whipped cream and chocolate poetry sprinkles
